The Montclair administrators are fielding a number of irate emails and calls concerning police ticketing them at drop off. Many Montclair parents were stopped or ticketed by police when they tried to drop off teens.
Many of the parent drivers have been using Chestnut Street as a drop off area but suddenly found drivers running a new traffic pattern due to the new traffic signs. The school traffic guard said he had witnessed some confusion at the intersection.
The erected a No Turn Signs at Midland Avenue near the intersection with Chestnut started causing confusion and resulted in a number of tickets. The road signs prohibit parking on either side, except for buses.
These street signs were erected to help relieve congestion on the gridlock in the mornings. It seems that no parking signs were even placed following the holiday break and that police are taking advantage of the newly placed signs.
Although the parking and restrictive signs may be new, the restrictions support an adopted ordinance from last year that the drop off area was getting to chaotic. At the start of each day, over 1900 students and hundreds of facility arrive at Montclair High School.
It seems that the new traffic signs are causing headaches and guess we’ll see the outcome of this issue.
