A number of Amish children were rescued on Saturday after being dragged several feet in an overturned buggy in Graves County, Kentucky. The old fashioned buggy was hit by a SUV ignoring the traffic road signs and overlooking the bright orange safety sign located on the back of the buggy.
The safety signs have caused quite a stir in Amish communities, with the implied dangers they hold. The passengers of the old-fashioned carriage were between seven and fifteen and they all survived. The teen responsible for operating the buggy was cited to failing to display the orange safety sign.
Drivers of both vehicles have been summoned by the Graves County Court and the driver of the SUV may have been intoxicated. Local reports imply that the driver of the SUV left the scene of the accident and showed signs of alcohol consumption.
This collision comes shortly after 10 Amish men were sent to jail for objecting to adhere to the road safety regulations by marking their vehicle with slow signs and refusing to pay fines. It is imperative for the Amish to follow the street signs and other laws of the road set in place in order to protect the public.
